The Eye of Ra/Re
According to Google - The Eye of Ra or Eye of Re is a being in ancient Egyptian mythology that functions as a feminine counterpart to the sun god Ra and a violent force that subdues his enemies. The eye is an extension of Ra's power, equated with the disk of the sun, but it often behaves as an independent goddess.
There is a lot of overlap of the Egyptian gods and Goddesses. You will read or see that in some places these goddesses are wives, daughters, sisters to Ra/Re. It depends on what region/nome of Egypt you are researching or visiting. I find it very interesting that the male counterpart is sending female counterparts out to do battle or subdue his subjects!
In these descriptions I am going to stick to the basics of who these goddesses are, not to make light of them. To show as we move through the ancient civilizations you will see overlap of gods and goddesses in different areas of Earth. It’s my hypothesis that many of these beings lived so long ago that we don’t have a clear picture/ story of them now. Especially if we are seeing them as extraterrestrials who came here and seeded our planet. 36000 years is a long time to keep any story straight.
If we are looking at this from a spiritual point of view all of these beings are an aspect of the Creator and so they would overlap as to keep balance within the Universe(s). My opinion/hypothesis, do you have one? Let me know what it is . . .
Mut/Amaunet - Here is a great example of the Goddesses taking on each others abilities, ranking in their hierarchy. Both Mut and Amaunet are represented as Ra/Re’s queen or chief wife. They both wear the red crown of lower Egypt, they hold a a papyrus headed staff. They are represented in human form. They are both protective mother figures of Ra/Re and of the Pharaoh. Amaunet is regarded as a primordial goddess.
Mut - Thebes and Heliopolis, Mut is portrayed as the mother Goddess. She is the chief wife to Amun Ra/Re. She wears the vulture crown and the crowns for lower and upper Egypt. She is the only Goddess depicted in this way - perhaps her name changed as the languages changed?
She also takes on the form as a lioness as her sisters Hathor, Sehkmet and Bastet. They are Ra/Re’s warriors and protectors. I find it very interesting the female goddesses are the protectors of Ra/Re and the Pharaoh as depicted in the temples at Karnak.
Sekhmet - Powerful or ‘the female powerful one’. Sekhmet is known as the daughter of Ra and she became the most important manifestation of the ‘Eye’ of the Sun God. Sekhmet is regarded as a battle Goddess. She is also seen as the mother of the kings, nurturing and loving, fiercely protective of the Pharaohs. “Sekhmet, mistress of Life.”
Sekhmet was associated closely with Hathor and also linked with the Theban Goddess, sometimes the aggressive counterpart of Mut/Amaunet Amun Ra’s Consort or chief wife.
Sekhmet is a lioness goddess
She is connected to Ptah as his consort, mother to Nefertem at Memphis.
As time went on Sekhmet absorbed a number of other Goddesses. Taking on their abilities.
Hathor - Maiden, Mother, Crone - As the Eye of Ra she is the great avenger of Ra who was angry with the humans for making fun of his old age. So he sent Hathor to punish them. Ra grew concerned when he saw Hathor was killing most of the humans. He created a recipe with mandrake and the blood of her victims and told the humans to make a large vat of beer. When that was done Ra pour his potion into the vat of beer. Hathor smelling the blood of her victims went to check out the Vat of beer. She drank the beer and fell asleep. Waking again to see the destruction she created. After that the humans were really nice to Ra and Hathor.
There are many titles for Hathor, mother of the Pharaoh, wife of the pharaoh, daughter of Ra as the Eye of Ra.. Here is my hypothesis of this, Hathor is daughter to Ra, maiden. wife of Pharaoh, mother, mother of Pharaoh, crone.
She represents the stages of the female human. This is why we see her portrayed as she is in tombs, temples and elsewhere. If we are seeing these beings as extra terrestrials with very long life spans we see her growth from a youth to woman to crone assisting the Egyptians to their next life in A’aru.
We see Isis take on some of Hathor’s attributes as we move along history, but Hathor is not forgotten even now there are those who worship or speak of Hathor with respect.
The Egyptians believed their Gods and Goddesses died and went to A’aru allowing the next generation of ‘Gods and Goddesses’ to rule.
I believe this is where we see the intermarriage come along, where the Great wife of the Pharaoh is his sister, cousin, niece. To keep that energy of the extra terrestrial ancestry moving through the line.
We see this happen between Nut(sky) & Geb (Earth) who created - Isis, Osiris, Horus the Senior, Nephthyst and Set. Isis and Osiris pair up and Nephthyst and Set Pair up. Isis and Osiris create Horus. Nephthyst and Osiris create Anubis.(Nephthyst tricks Osiris into thinking she is Isis).
If the ‘Gods’ are doing it, it must be okay for the humans to continue doing it too, right?
Bastet - Eye of Ra - Daughter and warrior for Ra/Re. Bast as well as Sehkmet and Hathor side on his coat during the day and through the underworld at night. Bastet assists Ra by Killing Apophis every night so the Sun God Her father can rise again for a new day.
Bastet is known for her protective qualities as a warrior. She is not as fierce looking as her sisters, but she is the one who kills Apophis, God of Chaos. She is a Goddess of the Sun and Moon. She helps us understand the different rhythms of life. She is nurturing and loving. The Greeks often equated her with Artemis as she was the Goddess to call upon for childbirth, motherhood and nurturing. She is playful and can remind us to lighten up and play!
Let me know what you think . . .
Have a great week! Keep your heart open and align with LOVE!
